First Medical Response

The Hadley Wood Security Scheme’s primary role is to protect members and their personal property. In conjunction with our partners at My Local Bobby. In recent years the Scheme has developed into a First Response Service. We have equipped patrol vehicles with basic firefighting equipment, first aid kits and a defibrillator, which has been deployed four times since its introduction. The Security Scheme was founded originally because local residents were unable to get a satisfactory Police response within a reasonable time frame. Today we face a new challenge in that the 999-response time for an Ambulance is now woefully inadequate. The London Ambulance Service’s own figures show that an average wait time in excess of 8 hours is now commonplace for anything less than a heart attack. Because of the deterioration in the 999 Ambulance response, we have upgraded our First Response Service. We aim to have at least one Bobby on duty on every shift who will be fully trained to provide a medical First Response Service whilst a patient is awaiting the arrival of an ambulance. Please note that this is a First Response Service only and does not replace the London Ambulance Service. 

The Bobby’s role in the upgraded First Response Service is primarily to Preserve Life, Prevent Deterioration & Promote Recovery. Our patrol vehicles will carry full trauma kits and oxygen as well as a defibrillator. However, the service should only be called upon once you have phoned for an ambulance and are awaiting its arrival. The Bobbies will not be able to attend until you have called an ambulance. This service does not replace a visit to A&E or your local GP. Please also note that the patrol will not be able to provide a transport service to A&E.
